Our philosophy
NYCSLA believes that making your library visible in your community and supporting your school’s goals and initiatives are the keys to continued funding of school libraries.
Current initiative
NYCSLA is reaching out to teacher and administrator preparation programs to provide librarian guest speakers to increase awareness of the importance of a school librarian and library programs. Please email Sara at spaulsonyarovoy@schools.nyc.gov if you are interested in supporting this effort or if you are an instructor of teachers or principals and would like NYCSLA to visit your post-secondary class and explain the new role that school librarians serve in addressing the Common Core Standards. We are also planning to broaden this outreach to elected NYC officials so they understand the profound alignment between information skills and the Common Core.
